The topic I’ve chosen delves into the question, “Globalization & local culture: does increased connectivity erode or enrich local traditions?” I picked this topic because I lived in both Philippines and Canada, I noticed how much the Philippines was influenced by so many cultures and wondered how much of our own culture is being preserved and to what extent? I remember watching a video from GMA Public Affairs, a Filipino news channel I’ve always tuned into, and one of the most famous journalists named Jessica Soho discussed how iconic and monumental structures within the Philippines are being taken care of. There were monumental architectures that played a significant role in the Filipino identity and yet it was not preserved well and left it in a derelict condition. That being said, I began to wonder how Canada is affected by the diverse cultural influences and how their own identity is being preserved and/or enriched with these influences.
Below is the YouTube video I watched regarding Filipino architectures and how they’re being taken care of. Note that it is in Tagalog, so please feel free to use the closed captioning feature to read in the language to your liking.

Hi Therese,
I think your free inquiry topic sounds very interesting. I was born in Thailand and moved to Canada for higher education a couple years ago. I also noticed how Thailand were influence by multiple cultures from other countries. Many Thai people that I talked to in Canada are quite adaptive and tend to understand the Canadian culture very quickly and adjust their culture to fit into the Canadian society. I would also like to know more about how Canada is affected by other cultural influences and how does Canada preserve/enriched its own identity with influences from other culture.
Thank you for reading my comment. Feel free to read my first Free Inquiry Project Update if you are interested about my free inquiry topic: https://nathandus.opened.ca/free-inquiry-project-update-week-of-may-21st/
